FREE Story: An Angel Came” from I’ll Push You Steer, by Ronda Del Boccio

February 13th, 2017

Important NOTE: This post originally came out December 20 of 20165. It is updated to reflect a publishing change. AWOC Books closed its doors, and my co-author and I just released the book on I’ll Push You Steer: The Definitive Guide to Stumbling through Life with Blinders On on Kindle. People around the world are celebrating miracles at this time of year, which is December, in case you read this some months in the future. Jews celebrate the miracle of the oil, Hindus the miracle of light, and Christians the miracle of the savior’s birth, just to mention a few. I was thinking about... Read More

Grief Is Like a Tea Bag: Book Excerpt from They All Died Smiling: Kassidy and Russell First Kiss

September 24th, 2015

UPDATE 11/27/17: this book comes out soon from The Wild Rose Press. Get your free sneak peek here. I just did an interview for a funeral home. Not a job interview. The kind a writer gives to an interested party. Yeah, I don’t know “why Ronda” either, but there it is. Anyway, the topic of grief naturally arose, and I mentioned how grief infiltrates life the way a teabag infuses its essence into water. Grief can be a powerful motivator for a wide variety of actions a character takes (or does not take).  For the reader, seeing how the protagonist or other character responds... Read More

Book Excerpt Paranormal Humor Novella A Tasty Morsel by Ronda Del Boccio

February 11th, 2015

Writing a story is fun – and it’s a craft that takes practice, like any other. I also love reading 5-star reiews from readers who took the time and trouble to write a review. This humorous paranormal tale includes a vampires, ghouls, and even a ban-shee with a personality disorder. What People are Saying about A Tasty Morsel I am so excited about my latest review of A Tasty Morsel! “More than everything, it’s a memorable piece that stands out in a sea of common, overused themes.” from a review by Tom Jones “I loved the book because it took me on a journey... Read More

Novel Writing Help: Do Your Characters Have to Cuss? NaNoWriMo Day 26

November 26th, 2014

Today while working on They All Died Smiling, on my mad dash to 50,000 words this month for NaNoWriMo,  I needed to deal with an angry phone call without suddenly introducing swear words into an otherwise clean book. At meetings of the Northwest Arkansas Writer’s Workshop, when an author is reading their allowed five pages, sometimes there is a cuss word on the page but the author replaces it with something more for a G-rated audience. We travelers talked about cussing and steamy scenes in writing on the road back home.  None of our group prefers Rated-R type content. I’m pretty... Read More

How Do You Make Minor Characters Come to Life? NaNoWriMo Day 3

November 4th, 2014

How do you bring your minor characters to life? I’m participating in National Novel Writing Month, NaoWriMo, My book is They All Died Smiling, a paranormal suspense story. Today I was thinking about minor characters and what I do to make the come to life. Honestly, even the minor characters typically simply “come to me.” Occasionally I base one off of someone from my real life, but mostly they present themselves to me. When I need a minor character, I like to know one thing that makes them stand out. It’s not necessary to invent a whole back story for them. When I needed... Read More
