Flash Fiction Story: The New Girl | Friday Fictioneers, 30 Nov., 2018
I’ve been working on a novel this month, yet I’ve loved writing these short stories. This is another one from the world of Kassidy Spence from the Reluctant Demon Hunter story.
It’s yet another mundane tale…um…mainstream. Can you believe it? HA! It comes from right after Aunt Beck and Uncle Walt took her in, when she was 7.
You meet Uncle Walt (dead before They All Died Smiling), and a young Russell Higgins.

“Didn’t know your family was here, Russ.” Mopping his brow, Walt squirmed out from under the tractor.
“Ma said to come over and meet the new girl.”
Walt chuckled, remembering himself at ten. “You’re gonna trip over your lip if you leave it hangin’ like that.”
Russ retracted it.
“Well, ‘the girl’ is handy in the kitchen. She’s fixin’ supper. You’ll meet her soon enough.” He pointed to an array of tools on an oil cloth. “Hand me that there filter, then go get me the red oil can from the shelf, will ye?”
“Yessir.”
